Built upon the foundations of self-sacrifice in the death throes of autumn in 1997, Dark Martyr is the vehicle for a romantically self-destructive ideology. Originally conceived by bassist Dean Goethsimanis, the concept of Dark Martyr was set in stone long before he decided to set music to it. Dean found Marko Stepanov quite by accident, and eventually formed a musical partnership. As the year drew to a close, the duo had purpose and a name: Dark Martyr. Dark Martyr can be described as the collective passion of love, war and woe, with influences stretching from the likes of In Flames and Emperor to Ministry and Bella Morte.
After a long and chaotic existence with numerous line-up changes, and a long and cathartic hiatus, Dark Martyr is now working on material for a new album that will take their artistic vision to a new level of musical and technical competence. Look for Ruin: Hymns to Loss and Cataclysm, Dark Martyr’s second release, due out soon.
